Community Forum – Gun Violence – Finding Common Ground. Taking Action.
Grandmothers Against Gun Violence has spearheaded the creation of the Heatland Coaltion Against Gun Violence. Our first undertaking is this community forum, Monday, October 13, at All Souls Unitarian Church, from 9 am to 3 pm. The purpose of the event is to share common experiences and concerns related to gun violence – including gun safety, suicide, murder, mental health and more – and to identify effective strategies and action steps to reduce its damage in our society. Our influence will only be felt if we educate ourselves on the issues and show our elected officials that we are a block of concerned citizens who will vote based on this issue, and will hold them accountable for the needless loss of life caused by gun violence.
The cost for the day is just $15 and includes a box lunch. Register here. Space is limited – by pre-registering and paying, you will be assured a box lunch.– Event Sponsors – Coalition Conference Schedule.
Missouri/Kansas Grandmothers Against Gun Violence is a group with the goal of raising awareness about gun violence. We are the first local chapter of the national organization: Grandmothers Against Gun Violence.
We are not opposed to guns per se. We are opposed to gun violence. We are currently focused on three goals:
Universal background checks, making gun trafficking a federal crime and restricting the capacity of magazines.
We have monthly educational meetings and welcome all supporters. You don’t have to be a grandmother. You can be male or female; Republican, Democratic, or of any other political persuasion. We have members from both sides of the state line.
